Detailed day-by-day safari itinerary
Every day below is a proposed program. Your final booking itinerary will state exact lodge choices, confirmed park activities and transfer arrangements.
Day 1: Travel from Entebbe to Kibale Forest
Leave the Entebbe region after breakfast and head west toward Fort Portal and Kibale National Park. Stop for lunch along the route and enjoy glimpses of farming landscapes, tea-growing country and changing hills. On arrival, check into a comfortable forest lodge and discuss the following morning’s chimpanzee tracking with your guide. This is primarily a transfer day, with the remainder of the evening reserved for rest and dinner.
Day 2: Guided chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park
Meet the park rangers for the official chimpanzee trekking briefing at the designated visitor center. The forest walk can take different lengths of time because chimpanzees move freely, so carry drinking water, a waterproof jacket and suitable walking shoes. During a successful encounter, observe the chimps’ social behavior and forest setting while following all ranger instructions. After lunch, a community-guided walk in Bigodi Wetland can be arranged if energy and time allow. Return to the lodge for a relaxed evening.
Activity note: This ranger-led wildlife experience requires advance booking. Animals move freely and sightings or trek duration are not guaranteed.
Day 3: Journey south from Kibale to Bwindi
After breakfast, your safari guide will travel south through western Uganda toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is a long overland transfer, so the itinerary focuses on sensible breaks and arrival before the next day’s trekking. There may be opportunities for viewpoints around the Queen Elizabeth region and the Kigezi Highlands without adding a full game drive. Your lodge will be chosen near the gorilla trekking sector printed on your permit. Dinner and overnight at Bwindi.
Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the correct Bwindi trekking briefing point. Rangers explain conservation rules, safe viewing distances, permitted photography and what to expect on uneven forest trails. The trek can be physically demanding and its length varies with the gorilla family’s location. On a successful trek, you spend the permitted viewing period observing the gorillas under ranger supervision. Return to the lodge for rest; any optional community activity will be scheduled only if you feel comfortable after trekking.
Important: Gorilla permits must be reserved for the confirmed date and trekking sector. Terrain and forest conditions vary, and all participants must follow park rules. We will explain the applicable age and health requirements before booking.
Day 5: Return to Kigali after the gorilla adventure
After breakfast, begin the road journey back to Rwanda, taking time for immigration formalities at the border. Enjoy the changing landscape as you descend from the Uganda highlands toward Kigali. Depending on your onward flight and road conditions, you may stop for lunch or make a short Kigali sightseeing visit. Your guide will arrange a drop-off at the airport or preferred hotel. We recommend leaving a generous connection buffer instead of scheduling a tight departure.
Suggested accommodation and travel comfort
We select accommodation according to your budget, the confirmed trekking sector, the park route and availability for your exact dates. Suggested mid-range and luxury properties may include Bweza Gorilla Lodge or Gorilla Leisure Lodge near Bwindi, Chimpanzee Forest Lodge or Chimpundu Lodge around Kibale, The Bush Lodge or Elephant Hab Lodge near Queen Elizabeth, Pakuba Safari Lodge or Nile Safari Lodge near Murchison, and appropriate locally operated properties in other regions. These are examples only and are not confirmed reservations.
We recommend comfortable private road transportation with an experienced driver-guide. Longer routes may benefit from domestic flights, additional nights or a revised order of destinations. We will review room categories, meal basis and any children’s ages before preparing the final quotation.
