Detailed day-by-day safari itinerary
Every day below is a proposed program. Your final booking itinerary will state exact lodge choices, confirmed park activities and transfer arrangements.
Day 1: Crater lakes and the route to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Enjoy a scenic drive south from the Kibale region, passing the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains and beautiful western Uganda landscapes. Optional photo stops can include crater lakes or rural viewpoints along the road. Continue into Queen Elizabeth National Park, a mosaic of grassland, lakes and channels. If arrival time allows, enjoy an introductory wildlife drive before checking into your lodge. Overnight near the park with an evening to review the next day’s game viewing and boat safari.
Day 2: Queen Elizabeth game drive and Kazinga Channel cruise
Set out with your safari guide in the cooler morning hours on the game tracks of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Wildlife sightings vary daily, but the plains support antelope, buffalo, elephants and an array of birds, with opportunities to search for predators. In the afternoon, take a scheduled boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which joins Lakes Edward and George. Look for hippos, water birds and animals visiting the shoreline. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Ishasha wilderness and transfer to Bwindi
Travel toward the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where guides sometimes locate lions resting in fig trees. Sightings cannot be guaranteed, and your guide will choose tracks according to current access and wildlife reports. Continue toward the rolling Kigezi Highlands and the misty forests of Bwindi. Your exact accommodation location will be matched to the trekking sector on your gorilla permit, avoiding an impractical pre-dawn cross-park transfer. Dinner and overnight near Bwindi.
Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the correct Bwindi trekking briefing point. Rangers explain conservation rules, safe viewing distances, permitted photography and what to expect on uneven forest trails. The trek can be physically demanding and its length varies with the gorilla family’s location. On a successful trek, you spend the permitted viewing period observing the gorillas under ranger supervision. Return to the lodge for rest; any optional community activity will be scheduled only if you feel comfortable after trekking.
Important: Gorilla permits must be reserved for the confirmed date and trekking sector. Terrain and forest conditions vary, and all participants must follow park rules. We will explain the applicable age and health requirements before booking.
